RC Imperial Rosewood & Boxwood Chess Pieces
The Imperial Knight Collection is a set of unique rosewood ornaments that make up a rare chess set. Each individual playing piece is instantly recognisable as an Imperial Knight, such is the strength of the set’s stylistic identity. The knight, for example, boasts elongated ears that are seen nowhere else in the Regency collection. His truncated mane is found elsewhere only in the luxury section.
This beauty of design is matched with a practicality that separates this set as remarkable. At 3.75 inches (98 mm) the tulip king is designed to fit effortlessly into a player’s hand, curving like an hourglass, with a gilded barrier three quarters of the way up, hand turned to rest a forefinger during play. The bishop, rook and queen share the king’s practical shape but on a less grand scale, each piece having its own interpretation of the Imperial Knight uniform.
The rook, especially, has been a subject of conversation since this ornate chess set was introduced. A petalled top, hand carved from solid rosewood, is not something chess enthusiasts have seen before. Neither have the art chess colleagues we work alongside here at Regency Chess. In short, we have a new ornamental piece at the top of the tree. As a complete set, the Imperial Knights are destined to become a Regency Chess classic. With this in mind we have matched them with our most popular board to create the ultimate ornate chess set.
