A Classic Staunton Design
The Staunton pattern has been the recognised standard for serious chess for generations, and The Classic draws its character from one of the traditional designs that helped establish this enduring style.
The result is immediately familiar: clearly defined pieces, balanced proportions and a traditional appearance that looks equally at home in a dedicated chess room or at the centre of a competitive game.
With its substantial 3.75-inch (9.5 cm) king, The Classic has the presence expected from a serious set of chessmen while remaining comfortable and practical for regular play.
Hand-Carved from Quality Hardwoods
Each chessman is hand-carved from quality hardwood, giving the set the individual character and craftsmanship associated with traditional wooden chess pieces.
The pieces are weighted to provide greater stability and a more substantial feel in the hand. Their felted bases allow them to glide smoothly across the playing surface while helping to protect the finish of your chess board.
This combination of traditional carving, substantial proportions and practical weighting makes The Classic particularly well suited to players who want their chessmen to feel as good during a game as they look on the board.
For the Serious Player
Whether you are an experienced player, developing your tournament skills or choosing a quality chess set for a budding grandmaster in the family, The Classic offers the proportions and traditional styling associated with serious chess.
The individual silhouettes remain easy to recognise at a glance, while the generous size and weighted construction give every move a satisfying sense of purpose.
Luxury Mahogany Storage Box
Completing the set is a luxury Mahogany chess piece box, providing an attractive and practical place to keep the chessmen safely together between games.
Rather than treating storage as an afterthought, the traditional wooden box complements the character of the chessmen and makes the complete set particularly suitable for display, gifting and long-term ownership.
Traditional Chess for Generations
The appeal of a classic Staunton set lies in its ability to transcend changing fashions. These are chess pieces designed around a pattern that generations of players have recognised and enjoyed.
Substantial, practical and traditionally styled, The Classic is a set for those who appreciate the enduring character of wooden chess and want a set that can be brought to the board and enjoyed game after game.
