A beautifully proportioned classic Staunton chess set, created for players who appreciate the timeless appearance and practicality of traditional chessmen. Featuring a substantial 3.75-inch (9.5 cm) king, 34 weighted and baize felted chess pieces, four queens and a three-year warranty, this is a serious set of chessmen designed to be played and enjoyed for years to come.
Key Characteristics
The Timeless Staunton Design
Few designs are as closely associated with the game of chess as the traditional Staunton pattern. Its instantly recognisable forms have become the standard by which wooden chessmen are judged, combining visual elegance with the practical requirements of serious play.
This set remains faithful to that classic character, with clearly defined pieces and balanced proportions that allow every chessman to be identified immediately as a position develops across the board.
A Substantial 3.75-Inch King
Standing at 3.75 inches (approximately 9.5 cm), the king gives the complete set a substantial presence. It is a size particularly well suited to players who prefer generously proportioned chessmen and the traditional appearance of a serious playing set.
Careful attention to the proportions of the pieces creates a set that looks impressive when arranged for play while remaining practical and comfortable to handle throughout a game.
Weighted for Stability
The chessmen are weighted, giving each piece additional stability and a reassuring feel when picked up and moved. This extra substance is particularly noticeable during longer games, where the tactile quality of the chessmen becomes an important part of the playing experience.
Each base is finished with baize felt, allowing the pieces to move smoothly across the playing surface while helping to protect the finish of your chessboard.
34 Chessmen with Four Queens
Rather than the standard 32 pieces, this set contains 34 chessmen. An additional queen is provided for each side, giving you four queens in total.
This is a useful feature during genuine play. When a pawn reaches the opposite side of the board and is promoted to a queen, the correct additional piece is immediately available without the need to substitute an overturned rook or another chessman.
For New Players & Experienced Hands
Although the traditional Staunton design will immediately appeal to experienced chess players, there is no reason a quality set should be reserved only for experts. Its clear piece shapes and familiar proportions make it equally enjoyable for someone developing their game.
A chess rules booklet is included, providing a useful reference for newer players while making the set ready to enjoy from the outset.
Three-Year Warranty
This chess set is supplied with our three-year warranty, providing additional reassurance and reflecting our commitment to the quality of the chess products we supply.
With its classic Staunton styling, substantial 3.75-inch king, weighted construction, baize felted bases and four-queen configuration, this is a traditional set designed for one purpose above all else: to be brought to the board and enjoyed game after game.
